Storydriven transformed a tired and bland hotel into an epic and memorable resort experience.
THE BACK STORY
Situated on Oahu’s fabled North Shore, Turtle Bay was working against its strongest asset by shutting the gates on its stunning location. National Geographic describes this coastline as the eight wonder of the world, but once enclosed within the resort walls, guests could have been at a hotel in any tropical clime. Adopting the Hawaiian tradition of talkstory, Storydriven helped weave warmth and authentic culture throughout the brand. This is conversation at its best, both respectful and entertaining, and it expresses true aloha spirit.
OUTCOMES
Both literally and figuratively, we pulled down the gates that separated resort guests from the true Hawaiians who lived nearby.
We crerted a storytelling strategy where locals who had previously opposed the resort now consider its bar their watering hole.
Oh yeah, we also turned Surfer, The Magazine, into Surfer, The Bar. With cold drinks, tasty snacks, and real live people. How cool is that?

Location: Kuilima Point, 4:23pm, 4-foot swell. Storydriven art-directed an epic, 7-day photoshoot to capture the essence of this fabled location.
Visual Identity. We drew inspiration from Pipeline, one of the most famous waves in the world, to reflect the powerful nature of this property and experience.
Website. Long on photos, short on copy. Enough said.
Resort Signage. Storydriven devised modern and well-programmed signage throughout the entire 900-acre property.
Merchandise. Fresh clothing and product designs made it easy for resort guests to become brand ambassadors.
Visual Identity: Surfer, The Bar. As part of the new brand platform, Turtle Bay partnered with Surfer Magazine. We designed an iconic new bar brand and clothing line.
Menu: Surfer, The Bar. By introducing “Talkstory” nights and live bands to this refreshed lobby bar, we transformed it into a hangout favoured by the locals.
